How We Got Started
A BIT OF BACKGROUND
The Shalfleet Kennel is located near Cambridge, England, under the care of Jane Wilton-Clark, daughter of Norman F. Odell and Barbara Odell.
Established in 1952 by Barbara Wilton-Clark (nee Odell) the kennel began with a greyhound bitch from the Treetops Kennel and a whippet from Wingedfoot. The Shalfleet kennel has celebrated significant achievements over the years, having bred and/or owned over 35 UK champions and secured more than 200 CCs. Between 1961 and 1982 the kennel produced 24 litters of greyhounds, resulting in 21 English champions.
Following her retirement to Spain, Barbara sadly passed in 2024. However, her daughter Jane, who grew up immersed in the Shalfleet legacy, successfully re-established the kennel. In 2001, she founded the new Shalfleet Whippets with an import kindly gifted by Max Magder of the Lorricbrook Kennel in Canada. From this bitch, Lorricbrook Mirror Image, she bred her first whippet champion, Ch Shalfleet Silken Image, who many acheivements included Rerserve Best In Show at Blackpool and Whippet of the Year at the prestigeous Supermatch. Additionally, she also imported a Lorricbrook male, whose daughter won BPIS at Bournemouth in 2007.
Since then, Jane has bred the Whippet Male CC Record Holder, Ch Shalfleet Simply a Lord, who holds 39 CCs, 3 HG1s, and has been twice Best of Breed at Crufts, where he achieved HG2 and HG4. Ch Shalfleet Simply a Lord also sired Ch Shalfleet Sugar Frosting JW, who won the JW Finals at Crufts in 2014 and was Best Puppy In Show at the City of Birmingham all-breed championship show.
